Most experienced surgeons
The most advanced lens surgery
We have extensive experience with all lens surgical techniques and use only the latest and greatest of these. We use the so-called “minimally invasive technique”, which takes place via a few mm long cut and does not, as in the “old days”, require any kind of sewing. The choice of lens type for the individual patient depends on the need for correction and is revealed during our thorough pre-examination and during the conversation with the lens surgeon. The clinic have one of the most experienced Danish surgeons. Eye surgeon, dr.med. Sven Asp who is the Centers’ leading laser surgeon and has, among other things. performed more than 12,000 treatments, where more than 10,000 of them are SMILE treatments (Europe record) and performs a further more than 30 treatments per week. Lens surgery is led by Professor, dr.med. Thomas K. Olsen, who has performed more than 15,000 lens surgeries and in professional circles, is recognized as one of Europe’s most competent refractive lens surgeons, who for more than twenty years has been responsible for the most advanced lens surgery at Aarhus University Hospital.

We were the first in Denmark to offer SMILE laser surgery. Our chief surgeon has over 16 years of experience with SMILE and has performed more than 13,000 operations.
How does laser eye surgery work?
Eye surgery techniques are constantly evolving, and today’s leading techniques are safe and effective when performed by qualified surgeons. In recent years, this has made laser eye surgery extremely popular among the approximately two-thirds of the population who currently wear contact lenses or glasses.
Laser treatments correct vision problems by changing the shape of the cornea. At the Eye Doctors Center, we most often use ReLEx smile/SMILE, which is the safest and most advanced technology.
How does the treatment work?
In practice, the shape of the cornea (and thus its refraction) is changed to the strength that is appropriate for the individual. For example, the cornea is made more curved when correcting long-sightedness and flatter when correcting short-sightedness. With older technologies such as PRK, the superficial cells are removed from the cornea (the epithelium), after which laser treatment is performed through the second layer of the cornea (Bowman’s membrane) and down into the third layer (the stroma), and then the superficial cells must heal again. At the Eye Doctors Center, we place great emphasis on providing accurate and thorough information about the individual treatments.
At the Eye Doctors Center, we place great emphasis on providing accurate and thorough information about each treatment. We review the benefits and risks, and we always take the time to answer any questions you may have about the treatment.
Who can be treated with laser eye surgery?
In principle, anyone over the age of 18 with stable vision is a candidate for laser eye surgery, but women in the final stages of pregnancy, breastfeeding women, and people with eye diseases are exceptions. To achieve a good and stable result, it is essential that the prescription for contact lenses/glasses has remained unchanged for at least one year.
